United Goes Hollywood! How UnitedService Companies stepped up to a challenge and got discovered

Ryan_Photo_2_copy.jpgAt UnitedService Companies, we strive to provide our customers unparalleled service. So, when the television show, Chicago PD, wanted to film a scene where fake money blew into the Chicago River, they contacted us to keep the waterway clean.

"You never know what a client may need, and our clients in the entertainment industry are certainly no exception to that rule," said Richard "Rick" Simon, president and CEO of UnitedService Companies. "We are always ready for new business opportunities. So, when the producers called—we stepped up to the challenge."

When Ken Grandy, a specialist with UnitedSecurity Services Inc., got the initial call from Chicago PD, he emailed Ryan Eldean, a Chicago-based team member and licensed captain. "In case you haven't been told, you're going to be a TV star," wrote Ken.

Ryan's task was to patrol the Chicago River in a boat near Marina Towers while Chicago PD was filming. "There may be debris falling into the water that you will need to get to and scoop out immediately to keep the river clean," Ken explained.

Entertainment is a growth industry in Illinois
According to the Illinois Film Office, the entertainment industry is thriving in Illinois because of the state's nationally renowned crew base, highly skilled actors, and industry vendors. Outside of commercials and smaller projects, Chicago has served as the setting for Mike and Molly, Empire, Chicago Fire and blockbuster hit movies like the Transformers and Divergent.

For that project, we took care of their janitorial services and security services. We kept the streets and the waterways clean and safe," said Vicki Rosen-Sanetra, COO of UnitedMaintenance Company. "Our work got noticed by the right people, and it's because of our combined efforts that we won the contract with Universal Studios. Now, we are the service provider for all their Chicago-based TV Shows."
