IMG_0243.jpgOn September 4, Miguel A. Perez, director of human resources, celebrated fourteen years at UnitedService Companies. In 2001, he began his career as an accounting clerk and then transferred to the human resources department in 2008. Miguel was our worker's compensation manager and benefits specialist prior to his current role in the human resources department, but he has performed just about every job offered at UnitedService Companies.

"I've made beds as a housekeeper, been a supervisor at convention centers for tradeshows. I've worked aboard planes as a cabin cleaner and visited just about every one of our major accounts at one point or another," said Miguel. "There are good days and rough ones, but I wouldn't have changed my time here for anything. Every day is something different and a new adventure here at United Services."

Miguel has made some big contributions over the years. For instance, he lowered reserves on worker's compensation loss runs by over $1 million.  He led the campaign for non-unionization that won the National Labor Relations Board vote at O'Hare International Airport and served on start-up teams for accounts like O'Hare, Rose Bowl, Walt Disney World, Multiple Hyatt properties, Los Angeles International Airport or LAX and Phillips Arena.

Building Relationships at UnitedService Companies
One can often find the human resources team gathered in Miguel's friendly, vibrant office taking some time to connect. "While he expects all our team members to perform and will take a hardline when he must, he cares deeply for each person on our team—never forgetting a birthday or special occasion. Miguel puts people at ease, comforts and supports them," explained Merrick Dresnin, vice president of human resources. "He is an asset to both our HR department and to United Service Companies."

Miguel studied Organizational Leadership and Supervision at Purdue University. He holds a PHR Certificate program from DePaul University and was awarded the SHRM-CP by Society of Human Resources Management, but learning on the job has had a significant influence on his leadership abilities. "Everything I have learned about being a manager IMG_0247.jpgand leader I have learned from our company's president and CEO, Rick Simon. I will be forever grateful to him taking a shot on me. He has done more for me and my family than anyone will ever know," said Miguel.

Miguel was born and raised in East Chicago, Indiana, and currently resides there with his wife Gloria their three daughters, Lola (15), Bianca (11) and Sophie (6). An avid soccer fan, Miguel has been playing since he was 8 years old, is currently on the Piratas FC team of Northwest Indiana and has coached youth soccer at the club and CYO level for his daughters. Miguel is a history buff and says he can read and watch historical books and documentaries day and night.
